May Arboretum Society Hosts Cactus and Succulent Workshop.
Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 6:00pm at the Ranch House – 1595 North Sierra Street, Reno.
Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden, Reno, Nevada – The May Arboretum Society is hosting a cactus and succulent workshop which will cover choosing appropriate pots/containers, soils and cactus planting techniques, in addition to the care and watering of succulents. During the evening, participants will create their own succulent container gardens. Attendees are required to bring their own pot or container. Specifics may be found on the Society’s website, though in general the pot should be at least 6 inches deep by 12 inches in diameter and it MUST have a hole in the bottom for drainage.
Cost for members to attend the workshop: $15; Cost for non-members to attend the workshop: $30

Speakers: Rod and Doris Dimmitt have over 30 years experience growing cacti and succulents in multiple locations, including California, Texas and Nevada, as well as in containers, as house plants and in the landscape. Rod works with the Nevada BLM to collect plants for his personal garden and for botanical gardens; his interest is in being able to propagate plants from seed, cutting and pups. The Dimmitts are members of the May Arboretum Society, the Native Nevada Plant Society and the Cactus and Succulent Society of America.
