Great Reno Balloon Race Throws Charity Event for Veterans Guest House

Take a tethered hot-air balloon ride and give back to a local charity

 The Great Reno Balloon Race (GRBR) is holding its official kickoff event at Rounds Bakery on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. The event benefits the Veterans Guest House, a local nonprofit providing military families with support during times of medical need. Two tear-shaped hot-air balloons will be tethered in the Rounds Bakery parking lot, where attendees can make a five-dollar donation to the Veterans Guest House for a tethered ride.

“We are excited to kickoff this year’s event by partnering with Rounds Bakery to raise money and awareness for the Veterans Guest House,” says GRBR’s Executive Director Pete Copeland. “The Veterans Guest House has been a long-time sponsor of The Great Reno Balloon Race, and an invaluable nonprofit in our community. Rounds Bakery, another Great Reno Balloon Race sponsor, has partnered with us on this endeavor, as they too share the same fondness for the Veterans Guest House.”

For every purchase made at Rounds Bakery on Aug. 15, customers will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a hot-air balloon ride for two people on Sunday, August 13th. At that time, the public is also invited to purchase extra tickets to be entered into the drawing and for a variety of great prizes.

As one of northern Nevada’s most celebrated family-friendly events, GRBR will take to the skies Sept. 11 — 13 from Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. This year’s event features upwards of 100 balloons, including 16 special-shaped balloons.
